Prices

The staff of The Groomery will make every effort to provide you with an estimate of the cost of your services before services are rendered.  In certain circumstances it may not be possible to estimate the exact cost in advance.  Fees quoted prior to grooming are estimates only and are subject to change.

Fees may be adjusted (at the sole discretion of The Groomery) based on the difficulty of the grooming process caused by excess undercoat growth, matted coats, health conditions which require slow and/or special handling of your pet, and/or pet behavior problems.

Pets are welcome to stay at The Groomery both before and after their grooming services are provided.  However, pets which are delivered to The Groomery more than one hour prior to their appointment and/or are picked up more than one hour after the customer is notified of completion may be subject to daycare fees.

Matted Pet Release

About Mats

A mat is basically a mass of tangled hair, but might also be held together by burrs or barbs from plants, particles of skin dander or other debris.  Sometimes mats start quite close to the pet's skin, making it difficult, if not impossible, to see the skin beneath.

bullet

A matted coat can cause and hide skin that is red, irritated, swollen, or cracked

bullet

A matted coat can conceal the presence of fleas or other pests

bullet

A matted coat can make it impossible to determine in advance the presence of any moles, scabs, or other conditions on the pet's skin.

bullet

A matted coat can prevent a pet's skin from completely drying if it becomes wet, a situation that is also conducive to causing skin problems.

bullet

The grooming process necessary to remove the matted coat may aggravate the pet's skin.

The Groomery's Care

Your pet stylist/bather will use all care and precautions during this procedure, but a matted pet may experience reactions such as hot spots and irritated or sensitive skin.  In addition, shaving the pet may reveal pre-existing skin conditions that we were unable to determine beneath the matting.  Should a pre-existing condition require immediate medical attention, we will attempt to contact you and take your pet to our veterinarian; the charges will be added to your invoice.

Pet Parent Consent

By leaving a matted pet in the care of  The Groomery, you agree to the following terms:

Due to the amount of matting in your pet's coat, you agree that all or part of the coat cannot be saved without causing undue discomfort to your pet.  You therefore authorize The Groomery to remove (shave down) your pet's coat.

You release The Groomery from any and all liability for any skin condition that might be revealed by the removal of the matted coat.  You understand that such pre-existing conditions are not the responsibility of The Groomery.  Revealed medical conditions may require veterinary care and you will assume all financial responsibility for any such expense.

California Abandoned Animal Act

Senate Bill No. 1018 ... (Senator Walter W. Stiern)

An act to amend section 1834.5 of the Civil Code, relating to abandoned animals

Section 1.  Section 1834 of the Civil Code is amended to read:

1834.5  Notwithstanding any other provision of law, whenever any animal is delivered to any veterinarian, dog kennel, cat kennel, pet-grooming parlor, animal hospital, or any other animal care facility pursuant to any written or oral agreement entered into after the effective date of this section, and the owner of such animal does not pick up the animal within 14 calendar days after the animal was due to be picked up, the animal shall be deemed to be abandoned.  The person into whose custody the animal was placed for care shall first try for a period of not less than 10 days to find a new owner for the animal, and, if unable to place the animal with a new owner, shall thereafter humanely destroy the animal so abandoned.

If an animal so abandoned was left with a veterinarian or with a facility which has a veterinarian, and a new owner cannot be found pursuant to this section, such veterinarian shall humanely destroy the animal.

There shall be a notice posted in a conspicuous place, or in conspicuous type in a written receipt given, to warn such person depositing an animal at such animal care facilities of the provisions of this section.
